Facial Scar Revision
Facial scar revision is a surgical procedure available to patients who are self-conscious about their facial scars or who have experienced diminished facial function. The operation is done under either local or general anesthetic and is usually an outpatient procedure.
While there is no way to remove scars completely, this surgery can improve the appearance of the scar either by disguising it, relocating it, or minimizing its prominence. In most cases there is about a 90% chance of improvement. Skin color and type, age, and the type of scarring are all factors that must be considered prior to surgery.
You can expect to feel some discomfort after facial scar revision surgery. Patients may experience swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, and possible numbness or change in feeling. A period of decreased activity is required after surgery, and it may take a year or more to fully heal and achieve the optimal improved appearance.
